Writing is one of ways to communicate with other people. Therefore, there are many people spend their daily activity by writing such as using SMS, facebook, e-mail, doing the task from the teacher or lecturer and others. But unexpectedly, although they are used to doing such those kinds of writing activities, they admit that writing is hard and it is not easy. It is seen when there is an obligation to submit an assignment to the lecturer, only few of them finish it by themselves, they need a help from another sttudent. In writing 2, the students face diffculty in writing and it makes the researcher curious to do this research to know this problem.
There are two research focuses in this research. First is what the problems in learning writing faced by the fourth semester students at English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan. The second is how the students solve their own problem in learning writing. The aim of this research is to describe the problems in learning writing faced by the fourth semester students at English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan and to know the ways or solutions to solve their problem in writing.
In this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative since it tries to describe the phenomenon. The data was collected through observation in writing 2 class, interview with the fourth semester students and writing 2 lecturer at English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan, and documentation about their problems in writing in terms of RSP of writing 2, photo, and recorder.
The result of this study found that the problems in learning writing faced by the fourth semester students at English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan are about the grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation. Furthemore, the ways or solutions that the students recommended are by asking to the other students or directly to the lecturer, reading many books, and practicing writing reguarly.
Based on the result above, it is recommended for the fourth semester students to study hard by practicing their writing skill either inside or outside the classroom in their single days and it is suggested for writing 2 lecturer to try the students on practicing more to write so that writing will be one of the students’ habits.
