Reading comprehension is an activity of obtaining the passage, main idea or topic of a text. It could increase the readers’ knowledge or information. But in other sides, the students of F class at the first semester of TBI at STAIN Pamekasan faced diffiuclty on reading comprehension, especially to decide the main idea of a paragraph. Whereas, main idea refers to a complete statement of a text. Which is the important one in the written or text. The phenomenon inspired the researcher to conduct a study concerning the difficulties of deciding main idea and the factors influencing.
There are two research focusues of the study. First, What are the difficulties of deciding main idea on students reading comprehension faced by F class at the first semester of TBI at STAIN Pamekasan? Second, What are the factors influencing of difficulties of deciding main idea on students reading comprehension faced by F class at the first semester of TBI at STAIN Pamekasan?
Based on the research focuses above, there are two research objectives of the study. First, to understand the difficulties of deciding main idea on students reading comprehension faced by F class at the first semester of TBI at STAIN Pamekasan. Second, to understand the factors influencing of difficulties of deciding main idea on students reading comprehension faced by F class at the first semester of TBI at STAIN Pamekasan.
The kind of the study is qualitative and the method is descriptive. To collect the data of this study, the researcher used three data collection procedures, those are: observation, interview and documentation.
Based on the finding of observation, interview and documentation there are 8 difficulties of deciding main idea on students reading comprehension faced by the students of F class at the first semester of TBI at STAIN Pamekasan, they are: 1) Inductive Paragraph, 2) Unfamiliar Word, 3) Low Reading Speed, 4) Lacked of Concentration, 5) Limited Time, 6) Low Reading Habit, 7) Diversification between Main Idea and Topic Sentence, and 8) The Effectiveness of Reading Style.And the factors influencing of difficulties of deciding the main idea on students reading comprehension faced by F class at the first semester of TBI at STAIN Pamekasan are: 1) Lacked of Vocabulary, 2) The Material, 3) Forget, 4) Crowded, 5) Uninterested on Reading Comprehension Course, 6) Sultry, 7) The Strategy is Used by the Teacher, 8) Poor of Confidence and 9) Having many Materials in a Lesson.
