Framing analysis actually the way journalist describe news in media.We
can know how journalist construct the reality in a news. Media designed how to
deliver information to public. Fact is not showed simply, but framed to produce
meaning construction which is specific. Sometimes media made radicalism frame
to cover terrorism action. The radicalism frames used are closely related to the
enforcement of the Islamic faith. Recently, many people read news in online
version because easier to accessed than printed. Certainly each online newspaper
in convey the news has characteristic itself and different way in framing a news.
This study aims to answer how media frames about terrorism action uses
Pan and Kosicki model. This study expect to enrich an understanding of framing
analysis in online newspaper, especially how journalist describes news on the text
about terrorism action.
In the process of composing this thesis, the researcher used qualitative
approach, focus on understanding social phenomena from perspective of human
participants in natural setting. In this research, is designed descriptively by using
content analysis, because analyzed on text in online newspaper. Two steps of data
collection procedures are utilized to obtain the data, they were observation and
documentation.
Based on the result of documentation and observation on text of news in
Jakarta Post and Tempo.co, the researcher finds there are differentiate between
Jakarta Post and Tempo in frame news of terrorism action. Jakarta Post frames
news about terrorism action more illuminate on terrorist action and how impact of
terrorism action. Jakarta Post also always mentioned directly in three cases of
terrorism action that ISIS behind the attack and responsible for action. When this
media mentioned ISIS is radical group in Islam, automatically build up public
opinion that in Islam there is radical group. Meanwhile Tempo.co frames news of
terrorism action illuminate the police action and involvement of police to
identified of action of terrorist. On three cases of terrorism action in Tempo.co,
make statement and police action as news headline.
The suggestions this research to online media as source of public
information, righteously try to keep news neutrality and not muddle between
opinion and fact. So that a news that convey is equilibrate. And the reader should
chooses news and critically give meaning on message that they read.
