Keywords: Language, Polite Conversation, Ibis Hotel.
Human being has an ability which other creator does not have. Their
ability is called as language where it is used to transfer the ideas to the hearer or
the other. In transferring the idea, they need to use a good way or polite to make
the communication better, so that the hearer will think that the speaker is good.
Polite is the way how people try to maximize the benefit of other. When people
use polite utterance in communication in the other word they try to maximize
other people. This study takes the example in the conversation which happens in a
hotel especially in Bali Island. The researcher wants to know about the polite
utterance used by the receptionist of hotel.
The research focus of this research is want to know how is politeness of
English conversation used by receptionist at Ibis Hotel Bali based on Geoffrey
Leech. This research focus automatically will answer the research objective which
stated to identify politeness of English conversation used by receptionist at Ibis
Hotel Bali based on Geoffrey Leech.
This research use qualitative approach where the method is using content
analysis. This approach will help the researcher to describe the situation in to a
paragraph. The used data is taken from the observation, interview, and
documentation. The source of the data was the receptionist and the subject is the
conversation which is used by the receptionist. Checking the data validity is
conducted by triangulation and documentation. Analyzing the data is carried out
by data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
Based on the result of this study, it is concluded that the conversation that
is used by the receptionist is using politeness which stated by Leech.
