A STUDY OF WORD FORMATION ON THE TAYLOR SWIFT’S SONGS LYRIC

Lyric is literature work or poem that contains pouring of feeling. Language
of a song is very important elements to express word in song lyric because it is
something important to express the singer’s feeling. In that lyrics there are many
word that can be analyzed by many some kinds of linguistics. In this study, the
researcher used the theory of word formation processes by Goerge Yule (2010) in
his book “The Study of Language” which is used to analyze the word formation
processes.
The researcher formulates three research focuses. The first is which lyrics
in Taylor Swift’s Song that are involve the word formation. The second is what
kinds of word formation process that’s lyrics Taylor Swift Song. The third is how
are word formation processes of Taylor Swift lyrics in Taylor Swift Song.
In the process of composing this thesis, the researcher uses Qualitative
research and content analysis in describing some phenomena, the song lyrics are
obtained from internet. The researcher uses data source, data collection procedure,
data analysis procedure, validating finding, and step of research.
The result of data analysis show that the researcher found various terms on
the data in this research. The researcher collects 38 words that include word
formation from three songs. The result of discussion show many kinds of word
formation process that analyzed based on the Goerge Yule’s theory that is main
theory.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the students to know and can
analyze word based on the morphological process because it adds knowledge
about the structure of word and the forming of new word.
