Morphology is the study of word formation, including the ways
new words are coined in the languages of the word, and the way forms of
words are varied depending on how they are used in sentences. One of the
branches which focus on forming new word is called word formation
process. This theory is related with the phenomenon today. Nowadays,
there are many kinds of social media that people can use and one of them
is instagram. One of features in instagram is hashtag. Instagram adds
features hashtags to help the instagramers find photos which have the topic
similar. It becomes the interesting thing, because everyone can find many
kinds of hashtag that has many ambiguities, especially in the written form.
That’s why in this case everyone has a same chance to change the
language when make hashtag in instagram.
The researcher formulates two research focuses in this research,
Howare the word formation processes of hashtags on instagram?andHow
do the instagramers use the hashtags on instagram?. So, the researcher
proposes this research to analyze how are the word formation processes of
hashtags on instagramand also to describe how do the instagramers use
the hashtags on instagram.
In the process of composing this research, the researchers use
qualitative approach especially descriptive research. Thus the data source
of this research is hashtags on instagram. The researchers also use
documentation to get the data.
The result of this research show, that there are many word that
created by instagramers in their hashtag and can be instantly understood by
other people. The researcher finds ninety six English expressions as the
data that involved to the word formation process.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the instagramers to
create the word creatively based on the theory of language study, because
it will less misunderstanding in communication
