Translation is one of important knowledge which has to be mastered by
many people, especially people who listen or study about English language. By
having a good translation, people can transfer the content of source language
correctly. So, it can help them to be easier in catching the point. But contrary, if
people could not translate the content of source language well, they may get
misinterpretation about the meaning or the message. There are some ways that can
be done in doing translate of songs. The most useful technique which is applied
by almost all translators, especially for the beginner translator is translation by
using the help of dictionary to find the meaning of the difficult words, look the
translation from google translate or just search the translate of song in one
website. The researcher just focus on search the translation in one website namely
www. Terjemah lirik lagu barat. Blogspot. Com, we can search many songs that
want to know the translation from this website.
The phenomenon above makes the researcher wonder to know what
Procedures of Translation which are used on a songs especially on Katy Perry’s
songs album entitled “Prism” that also as the subject of this research. Therefore,
the research problem is about What kinds of Translation Procedures which are
applied in Katy Perry’s songs album entitled “Prism”. The objective of this study
certainly to find out and knowing the kinds of Translation Procedures which are
applied in Katy Perry’s songs album entitled “Prism”.
This study uses Library research and descriptive research. The data
sources are Katy Perry’s songs album entitled “Prism” which consist of 6 songs
based on translation procedures. Techniques of data collection are reading and
understanding, giving underline and arrange systematically the data to investigate.
Data analyses are data reduction, display, conclusion and drawing. Then this study
uses triangulation of source in order to check the validity of data.
The discussion of the research, the translation procedures which are
usually used by translator in this Katy Perry’s songs album entitled “Prism” are
Borrowing, Calque, Transposition, Modulation, Adaptation, Literal Translation
and there is no Equivalence. And the most often used is Modulation Procedures.
Finally based on the data the researcher conclude that the translator often
uses Modulation Procedures in translating the Katy Perry’s songs album entitled
“Prism”.
