A Morphological Analysis on Derivational Morpheme Contained in Novel “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” By Stephen Chbosky

Language cannot be separated from life because everybody use language for communication. Through language everyone can understand the word and increase the knowledge. People use language as the key of learning. There are two objectives of this research. The first is founding derivational morphemes on the novel The Perks of being a Wallflower and the second one is analyzing kinds of the prefixes and suffixes on derivational morphemes are found on novel The Perks of being a Wallflower. This research uses content analysis method in library research though hermeneutic approach to literature. To collect the data, the researcher uses some procedures. The ways of collecting data is taking documentation of novel The Perk of being a Wallflower. Read the text of the novel and mark the word contains derivational affixes. The data dealing with the goals of the research. Data analysis is used to answer the research problem. The researcher determine the way to answer the research focus, that is content analysis. The researcher found 237 derivational morphemes on The Perks of being a Wallflower’s novel, some of them are beautiful, unhappy, interesting, invitation, silently and etc. That morphemes not only found in one page, but some of theme found in another pages. And the researcher also found what are the affixes of derivational morphemes on The Perks of being a Wallflower’s novel, such as Un-, Dis-, Re-, En-, Im- (as prefixes) and -hood, -ship, -ity, -ment, -less, -ful, -ic, -al, -er/ -or, -ly, -ate, -ance, -ing, -ion, -able, -ive, -ent (as suffixes). This study can be a strengthen for the student to know derivational can found in written sources and know kind of affixes on derivational morpheme so that they can understand the context of the text. It also can attract them to read novel The Perks of being a Wallflower because the novel has some interesting points to attract the reader and this study also gives the synopsis of that novel.
