The Role of English Teacher in English Course in Student’s Vocabulary Mastery at MA Khairul Falah Pamekasan

This study aims to analyze the teacher's role in learning, especially in
acquiring vocabulary in English course activities at MA Khairul Falah Pamekasan.
There are two problems that will be discussed in this thesis, namely: (1) what
programs are implemented in the English course in student’s vocabulary mastery at
MA Khairul Falah Pamekasan? (2) How the role of English teacher in English
course in student’s vocabulary mastery at MA Khairul Falah Pamekasan?. The
researcher used a qualitative method with the type of descriptive research.
Researchers obtained data from observation, interview, and documentation. The
informants of this research are English teachers as well as tutors in English courses
at MA Khairul Falah Pamekasan.
The first result of this research shows that programs are implemented in
English course in student’s vocabulary mastery are: memorization programs,
reading programs, speaking programs, listening programs, and writing programs.
The memorization program is a program that aims to make students memorize and
easily remember the vocabulary they have acquired. The second program is reading.
This program is carried out so that students get used to reading and find new
vocabulary from every reading book they read. The speaking program is the third
program in the course. In this program the activities carried out are storytelling,
telling their daily activities, or even just communicating with friends or teachers but
using English. Listening program, the activities in this activity are listening to songs
or stories told by friends. They can also acquire vocabulary through this program.
The last one is writing program. With this program, the teacher hopes that students
can write in English well.
The second result shows that the teacher's role is categorized in 5 things,
namely, motivator, always giving enthusiasm to continue learning English,
especially in acquiring vocabulary. The teacher as a guide, with intensive learning
the teacher believes that the students can read the vocabulary correctly. Not only
that, the teacher is also the designer of strategies, including repetitive learning,
learning specific vocabulary. The facilitator, the teacher facilitates the students who
take the course with reading materials either provided by the school or from a
private teacher. The last one is the evaluator. As a teacher, to find out the extent of
the students' abilities during the course activities is to conduct an evaluation. The
evaluation carried out was by re-testing their vocabulary memorization, giving
assignments both orally and in writing
