The Correlation Between Students’ Vocabulary Masteri and Their Spelling Ability in the Third Semester of TBI at IAIN Madura 2022

Vocabulary is one of English component can affect someone’s English skill
(listening, speaking, reading and writing). In Indonesia, usually the learners
learning vocabulary with memorize how to pronounce in English and the meaning
of the words in Indonesia. From it way, there is one thing that ignoring in learning
vocabulary, it is spelling. Knowing that the pronunciation and the written form
(spelling) is different. If we wrong in spell the words in written form, it will cause
the words change the meaning or it can be meaningless. There are some students
in the third semester of TBI at IAIN Madura still cannot spell their vocabulary
correctly. They know the pronunciation of the words that they mean, but they do
not know how the spelling it in written form. If they know the words that they
mean, they should have known the spelling of it, because the spelling is in
vocabulary mastery. Therefore, a research was conducted with the aim to know is
there any correlation between students’ vocabulary and their spelling ability in the
third semester of TBI at IAIN Madura 2022.
In this research, the researcher used quantitatve approach, while kind of research
design is used correlation design. To collected th data, the researcher used
multiple choice test and documentation.
The result of this research show that there is correlation between students’
vocabulary mastery and their spelling ability in the third semester of TBI at IAIN
Madura 2022. The researcher stated that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted
and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It is proven that the value of rh (r hitung) is
0,456, while the value of rt (r table) on 5% significant level is 0,355. So, there is
correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their spelling ability in the
third semester of TBI at IAIN Madura 2022 and the correlation between students’
vocabulary mastery and their spelling ability in the third semester of TBI at IAIN
Madura 2022 have enough significant
